One of the books I've read, but forgot to mention, was Fields of Fire, the latest in Marko Kloos's "Frontlines" milSF series, and I should kick myself over that, because it's not that forgettable. Random Reading Update
Continuing with my desultory read-through of obscure techno-thriller/SF writer Christopher Hodder-Williams, this time with the three indubitable SF novels of the late Sixties that made, well, whatever reputation he has - The Egg-Shaped Thing, Fistful of Digits and 98.4. The Seasons Turn and Turn Again
